Honors Convocation Showcases College's Top Students

During the recent 2014 Honors Convocation, Jefferson State presented numerous awards to deserving students. Among the honors presented were Jefferson State's top three student awards and the outstanding alumnus award. Each of these award winners are pictured below.


Anna Greer

The Allen Award, established in 1967 to honor the most outstanding student at Jefferson State, was presented to Anna Greer. The award is given based on academic record, service, high moral character, demonstration of leadership ability and the completion of sufficient hours for a degree.













Melissa Cook
The Fitzgerald Award, established in 1973 to honor an outstanding Jefferson State student, was presented to Melissa Cook. The award is given based on criteria of scholarship, service, citizenship and completion of sufficient hours for a degree.

The Ruby Carson Award, established in 1982 to honor an outstanding student at Jefferson State, was presented to Roosevelt Mendez. It is given based on service, leadership and scholarship.










Lwayane Orlando Childrey
The Outstanding Alumnus Award was presented to Lawayne Orlando Childrey who graduated from Jefferson State in 2005. Mr. Childrey overcame incredible adversity and became a highly respected news journalist.
