Run for Kenya

Jefferson State Participates in Run for Kenya

Jefferson State Ambassadors strike the pose!
Jefferson State faculty, staff and students participated in the recent "Kenya Relief - Race for Hope" 5K Run.

This event raised more than $6000 money to help fund the Kenya Relief Hospital in Migori, Kenya. Plans are now for this run to be an annual event. Jefferson State student Ebben Sanders, a scholars bowl student, won in the "Male age 15-19" division.

In 1998, Brittney James sponsored a child in Kenya, Africa. When she tragically passed away in 2001, her father, Steve James Felt it only right to see his daughters work by going to Kenya to meet Brittney's sponsored child, Newton first-hand. Upon arriving and seeing the weak, the weary, the homeless and unhealthy, he was deeply moved by the situation. Steve, a Nurse Anesthetist from Cullman, Alabama, found he could help by way of donating old medical equipment and his services as a medical professional. It all grew from there. Who knew something so tragic would turn into joy for people across the world Steve and Greta James have created a legacy of hope in Kenyarelief.org.
